An 18-year-old man has been charged over a deadly coward punch attack that claimed the life of another man in Burleigh Heads.

Cameron Duce, 22, had his life support turned off by his heartbroken family over the weekend after suffering critical head injuries in an alleged assault on September 22.

Police allege the young man was walking home from a night out in Burleigh when he was allegedly set upon at the intersection of First Avenue and The Esplanade around 2.30am.

The Nerang man was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital where he spent a week fighting for life before sadly losing his battle.

Following his death, Gold Coast detectives launched a homicide investigation and on Monday arrested an 18-year-old man from Robina.

He has since been charged with unlawful striking causing death and will appear at Southport Magistrates Court today.
