Traffic chaos after serious crash on the M1 Gold Coast

One person’s been rushed to hospital following a serious M1 crash at Merrimac that’s causing traffic chaos.

Emergency crews were called to the southbound lanes near exit 77 at around 8.45am following a multi-vehicle collision.

Paramedics have transported one person to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.

Another person is still being assessed by paramedics on scene, but is believed to be in a stable condition.

As of 9.39am, traffic was at a crawl back to Helensvale.

Motorists are being told to avoid the area if possible and expect delays.
