A man is fighting for life in hospital following a horror crash on one of the Gold Coast’s busiest roads.
Emergency services rushed to the Gold Coast Highway in Tugun around 1pm on Monday following reports a car had slammed into a tree, trapping the man inside.
He was eventually freed and rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a life-threatening condition.
The northbound lanes of the Gold Coast Highway have been closed off prior to the Toolona Street intersection, with diversions in place via Kitchener Street and Coolangatta Road.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
