A police officer has been killed and another has been shot following a shooting incident in South Australia.

Police were called to a home in the town of Senior near the border of Victoria at around 11.20pm last night to investigate a disturbance.

When they arrived, they were confronted by a male armed suspect sparking a shooting incident involving three police officers in total.

Two of the officers were shot, including one who suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

The alleged suspect was also shot and has sustained serious life-threatening injuries.

“One of the responding police officers sustained fatal gunshot wounds and despite the efforts of his colleagues and paramedics sadly died at the scene,” a SAPOL statement reads.

“A second police officer received non-life threatening gunshot wounds and has been transported to Adelaide for treatment. A third police officer at the scene was not physically injured and rendered assistance.”

“The alleged suspect was also shot by police and sustained serious life threatening injuries.”

He was treated at the scene and has since been flown to Adelaide where he remains under police guard.

Major Crime Detectives, Forensic Response Section and Internal Investigation Section are attending the scene.
