A man has been charged and is due to front court today after allegedly assaulting a teenage girl on-board a cruise ship off the Queensland coast.
Detectives from the Gateway Child Protection and Investigation Unit arrested the 71-year-old man at the Port of Brisbane on Saturday morning.
He is accused of assaulting a 14-year-old girl on board the vessel on Thursday night.
“It will be alleged the 71-year-old man confronted and grabbed the girl, not known to him, shortly before 11pm near a lift,” Queensland Police said.
The girl alerted nearby staff, who intervened and fortunately she was not physically hurt.
The man has been charged with deprivation of liberty and two counts of common assault.
Police have objected to bail and the man is expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
