Police have charged a man with a string of offences including torture following a child abuse investigation south of Brisbane.
Detectives launched Xray Boyd in March this year after a seven-week-old boy presented to the Queensland Children’s Hospital unresponsive.
“It will be alleged that medical examinations at the time revealed that the boy had sustained extensive injuries consistent with prolonged and repeated physical abuse,” Queensland Police said.
Police were immediately notified and the child was removed from the care of a 27-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman.
Following a protracted investigation, detectives arrested the man and have since charged him with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of torture.
He was refused police bail and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on 16 June.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Joshua Brewer praised the efforts undertaken by investigating officers.
“This was a deeply confronting matter for CPIU detectives to undertake given it involved a vulnerable infant sustaining serious injuries. Detectives worked with care and determination to take appropriate action to remove the child from harm.” Acting Senior Sergeant Brewer said.
“This investigation highlights the importance of community diligence – if members of the public are aware of or suspect child abuse, they are encouraged to report it to police.”
