A man has been charged with rape after a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted while on a morning walk in Brisbane.
Police allege the woman, aged in her 20s, was walking along Brookfield Road at Brookfield around 6.30am on Thursday when she was stopped by an unknown man and assaulted.
The man, who was wearing black shorts and a black jumper, then fled the scene on foot sparking a major manhunt.
Following investigations, police arrested a 32-year-old Raceview man a short distance away on Moon Lane yesterday afternoon.
He has since been charged with six counts of rape and one count each of stalking, assault with intent to commit rape, assault occasioning bodily harm and deprivation of liberty.
The woman was taken to hospital following the ordeal, with Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham confirming support has been offered to her.
“This poor young lady is traumatised as a result of what has occurred to her,” he said.
“We have a number of systems in place to look after her welfare, and I’m confident that those systems are well entrained for her.”
The man is due to front court today.
