A man has been charged over the alleged murder of his former partner on the Sunshine Coast almost three decades ago after being extradited to Queensland.
The body of Meaghan Louise Rose was found at the base of Point Cartwright Cliffs in 1997.
Police had initially ruled the 25-year-old’s death a suicide, but investigators reopened the case in 2009, before announcing a $500,000 reward for information in 2023.
Ms Rose had moved from Victoria to Queensland with her former partner Keith Lees, who was 20 years her senior.
In mid 2023, Queensland Detectives travelled to Victoria where they spoke with Lees, however, he allegedly gave officers a false name and went on the run for 18 months.
He was eventually tracked down and arrested at Dural in Sydney’s north-west last week by virtue of an outstanding police warrant.
Mr Less appeared in Hornsby Local Court on Thursday, where Queensland detectives successfully applied for his extradition from New South Wales.
He touched down in Queensland later that afternoon flanked by police before being charged with a single count of murder.
He’s due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
