UPDATE at 10am | Police have confirmed they are treating a massive fire that tore through an Officeworks store in Logan as suspicious.
There are still 10 fire crews working to contain the blaze this morning, over 12 hours since it began.
Firefighters weren’t able to access some parts of the building overnight and have had to wait for machinery to be brought in to access unsafe areas where flames continued to burn.
The building has been completely destroyed.
Police are appealing for witnesses or any dashcam that may have captured any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the fire.
EARLIER | Fire crews are continuing to battle a blaze that broke out in an Officeworks store in Logan.
The store on the corner of Kingston Rd and Compton Rd in Underwood went up in flames just after 8.30pm on Tuesday.
The building was safely evacuated with no injuries suffered as a result.
Dozens of firefighters spent hours trying to contain the blaze and stop it from spreading to neighbouring businesses including a Bunnings.
The blaze sent thick black smoke across several suburbs with residents urged to keep windows closed.
The fire was brought under control around 5.30am but continues to burn.
“We’ve still got a fire inside the building. We’ve contained it to the premises. The problem we have now is getting access to those pockets of fire,” QFES Incident Controller Mark Power told Seven.
“So hopefully we’ll get some machinery on site this morning and we’ll be able to get in there and extinguish that fire.”
