A woman has copped a ticket after being spotted riding a motorbike with her dog happily sitting behind the handlebars.
Police spotted the motorcyclist at Alexandra Headland on the Sunshine Coast last weekend with the woman’s dog strapped to her chest.
“You know you can’t do that. You can’t ride with a dog on the bike,” the officer is heard telling the woman before letting out a little chuckle.
The woman told the officer she didn’t know and had bought the harness off Temu.
The 35-year-old was issued with a $376 traffic infringement notice for riding with an animal between her arms.
Senior Sergeant Shane Panoho from Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol said drivers are required to have proper control of their vehicle and ensure they have a clear view of the road at all times.
“We know how attached some people are to their pets, but its best to apply a paws-off approach when it comes to our roads.
“The rider had purchased the harness online and did not think through the safety implications, particularly if the dog was to react to other road users, pedestrians or animals.
“This could place the rider and her pooch in harm’s way or put other motorists at risk.
“Although the dog seemed to be comfortable on the bike, we urge riders to practice safe and responsible behaviour on our roads.”
