Gold Coasters can try out a number of Olympic and Paralympic sports for free across the city this Saturday to celebrate 10 years to go to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Dozens of free lessons and coaching clinics will be held from 7am to 7pm, showcasing some of the sports expected to be hosted on the Gold Coast for the Games in 2032.
Some of the sports locals can have a go at include:
- Swimming at Pimpama Sports Hub
- Indoor volleyball at Coomera Indoor Stadium
- Beach volleyball at Kurrawa Beach, Broadbeach
- Soccer, basketball and wheelchair basketball at Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre, Carrara
- Skateboarding and BMX at Pizzey Park, Miami
- Athletics in various locations
“Dress up in your green and gold and come and try out an Olympic sport with the support of Olympians and Paralympians who will be here on the coast to join in the Olympic spirit,” said Mayor Tom Tate.
“From swimming and football lessons to wheelchair basketball and BMX demos, there’s an Olympic sport for everyone to try this weekend.
“We are a frontrunner when it comes to Olympic standard facilities, having hosted the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, Pan Pacific Masters Games and National Gymnastics Championships. The BMX World Cup is also scheduled for later this year.
“The significant investment into our new and refurbished venues have provided us with a head start in providing the world’s best facilities for the 2032 Olympics.”

Olympic gold medallist Ken Wallace encouraged locals to get behind the Green and Gold Runway event.
“It’s been a year since the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games and we were inspired so much by those athletes there and now we are 10 years out from Brisbane 2032. What an amazing opportunity this weekend to come out and have a go, there are so many sports on show,” he said.
Paralympian Ella Sabljak said Gold Coasters of all abilities can give at her sport, wheelchair basketball, a go at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre this Saturday.
“It is one of the the most inclusive sports so whether you have a disability, you don’t have a disability, you can come down, jump in a chair and have fun,” she said.

PLEASE NOTE: If the current weather conditions continue on Saturday all indoor events will go ahead as planned, however outdoor events will be postponed until the following weekend.
