UPDATE | A man and two teenage boys have now been charged after a dramatic cross-border chase where the occupants taunted Police and live-streamed their antics on social media.

Queensland Police had initially been tracking a stolen black Mercedes SUV along the M1 following a reported break-in at Cleveland around 9.30am on Thursday morning.

Polair followed the vehicle until it crossed the border where New South Wales Police took over.

More than a dozen New South Wales Police cars followed the Mercedes before tyre spikes were deployed at the Cudgera Road Tunnel.

The vehicle continued at low speed with the occupants seen hanging out of the vehicle, including the sunroof, filming their escapade.

It eventually came to a stop on the M1 at Cudgera Creek where a 16, 17 and 23-year-old were taken into custody.

Police also seized numerous weapons including two swords, a knife, and a tomahawk along with cannabis and cash.

“Terrible behaviour, disgraceful behaviour quite frankly, putting people’s lives at risk all for a couple of cheap thrills,” Inspector Matt Kehoe told reporters on Thursday.

The trio was taken to Tweed Heads Police station where charges have since been laid.

The 17-year-old driver was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, two counts of receive property stolen outside NSW and possess prohibited drug.

The 16-year-old passenger was charged with receive property stolen outside NSW, use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and travel in/on part of vehicle not for passengers/goods.

The 28-year-old passenger was charged with two counts of receive property stolen outside NSW.

All three were refused bail with the teens to front the Childrens Court while the 28-year-old will front Tweed Heads Court today.

The trio is expected to face further charges in Queensland.

EARLIER @ 2.25PM, Thursday, February 9 | Three men, including two teenagers, have been arrested following a major cross-border police pursuit on the M1.

The chase was sparked after Queensland police were initially called to a break-and-enter in Cleveland, east of Brisbane, around 9.30am.

Two males fled the scene in a black Mercedes SUV, which was then tracked by PolAir for almost 100km to the Queensland border.

Over a dozen NSW police cars then took over at around 12.20pm, successfully deploying tyre spikes to bring the offenders to a halt.

The spikes were deployed at the Cudgen Road Tunnel, near Tweed Valley Way, with the vehicle coming to a stop on the M1 Motorway at Cudgera Creek.

Three Queensland males aged 16, 17 and 27 were arrested at the scene and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station.

The trio are assisting police inquiries, charges are yet to be laid.

Footage of the chase showed one of the males leaning out of the sunroof holding what appeared to be a firearm.

Police are yet to confirm this report.

Motorists heading southbound on the M1 at Cudgera Creek are advised to avoid the area if possible and expect delays.

EARLIER @ 1PM | A major Police incident is unfolding on the M1 in the Tweed Region.

More than a dozen police cars have been pursuing a black Mercedes southbound on the motorway after a man was spotted hanging out of the vehicle reportedly with a firearm.

There are major delays between Cabarita and Pottsville turnoff with motorists urged to avoid the area.

All southbound lanes are currently blocked.
