Police have described as “disgraceful” the deliberate running down of a number of wallabies and kangaroos on the Gold Coast.

Horrified locals in Worongary made the shocking discovery on Sunday with at least ten animals mowed down and killed.

An infant joey is believed to be among those killed.

Superintendent Geoff Sheldon says residents reported seeing two cars in the suburb which they believe may have been responsible.

“We had the Police helicopter up and a number of units in the area but we were unable to locate them from patrols,” Superintendent Geoff Sheldon told the ABC.

“But later last night one of the vehicles was found at a service station on the highway and we’re able to backtrack through the CCTV footage…so the net is rapidly closing.

“I’m hoping we’ll have some today and rounding up those people for pretty serious animal cruelty. Just disgraceful conduct with killing innocent animals.”
