A man has been charged over an alleged brutal attack on a woman on the Gold Coast that’s left her in a coma fighting for life.
Police launched an investigation after the 26-year-old woman was dropped at the Gold Coast University Hospital around 10pm on Monday night, by a 29-year-old man allegedly known to her.
She was suffering significant head injuries and was placed into an induced coma.
The man was arrested the next day after officers attended a property on Cypress Avenue at Broadbeach Waters.
“A crime scene was declared at that property, encompassing some nearby roadway,” a QPS statement reads.
“A secondary crime scene was also declared on the man’s silver 2010 Mitsubishi Lander, located in the Gold Coast University Hospital’s underground car park, which was allegedly used to transport the woman to hospital.”
The Broadbeach Waters man has been charged with one count each of assault, grievous bodily harm and deprivation of liberty.
He was due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court today.
The Southport woman remains in an induced coma in a critical condition at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
A police investigation is ongoing.
