The Premier says he will talk to Gold Coast Council after the Mayor accused the state government of withholding millions of dollars in disaster relief funding.

Tom Tate blasted the government on Tuesday, labeling it ‘un-Australian’ and calling on it to ‘show me the money.’

It comes as Gold Coast beaches continue to bear the scars from Cyclone Alfred, seven months on from the disaster.

The Mayor claims the federal government handed the state $39 million months ago, but the city is yet to receive a cent.

“I’d like to see that now because they’ve got it and they’re not doing anything with it,” The Mayor said.

“Even the bank would release a transfer a lot quicker than that.”

The Mayor said he would personally bring it up with the Premier.

“I’ve got officers chasing the bureaucrats. I don’t want to bother him, but now I will because I’ve had enough.”

David Crisafulli has vowed to try to sort out the hold-up, but denied they were responsible for the delay.

“We work with the federal government, and when we get approvals, we get money out the door,” The Premier said.

“I would always welcome the opportunity to talk to Tom.

“If there are things that have fallen through the cracks, I’m always happy to go and work through that and see why it’s stuck in Canberra.”
