Man dies in tragic Gold Coast drowning

A man has died after drowning in the surf at Surfers Paradise.

Emergency services were called to the beach around 5.47pm on Monday after a man was spotted unresponsive in the water.

The man in his 50s was pulled onto shore, where lifeguards and paramedics performed CPR.

However, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner, but Police say at this stage the death is not being treated as suspicious.
