Black Friday fever has hit the Gold Coast and local shopping centres are bracing for one of their busiest weekends of the year.

With the event now eclipsing Boxing Day in popularity, crowds are set to start forming early as bargain hunters flock to snap up a steal.

Both Pacific Fair and Harbour Town are gearing up for a huge day, extending their trading hours until 9pm tonight to cater for the expected rush.

Kate Halpin from Pacific Fair says the centre anticipates around 100,000 shoppers to flood through the doors across the weekend.

“We expect millions to go through the tills this weekend. It’s a huge shopping moment,” Halpin said.

“We’ve got extended trading hours tonight and over the weekend so everyone can come in at their own pace and there’s heaps of activities, chillout zones and giveaways all weekend.

“Black Friday is a big sales moment because it’s a Christmas preparation so there might be more money going through the tills”.
