A man has been charged over a horror hit and run crash that injured a mother and daughter at Mermaid Beach over the weekend.
A 57-year-old woman and her 23-year-old daughter were struck by a stolen Mazda at the corner of the Gold Coast Highway and Markeri Street around 9.15am on Sunday.
The older woman suffered back and arm injuries, while the younger woman sustained pelvic injuries.
Both were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions.
The driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene immediately after the crash but was tracked down a short time later at a Broadbeach Waters shopping centre carpark where he was arrested.
The 32-year-old man North Ward has since been charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and fail to comply with reporting.
Police have also suspended the man’s driver’s licence.
He was due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
