Queensland has managed to fend off aggressive poaching raids from other states to keep the NRL’s Magic Round in Brisbane.

Following weeks of negotiations with ARL Commission boss Peter Vlandys, the Premier has confirmed the three-day footy showpiece will be remaining in Queensland.

The two parties agreeing to terms on a massive six-year deal, that will keep the much-loved event in the sunshine state until the 2032 Olympics.

Sydney, Perth, and even New Zealand were among those looking to pinch the event, which has pumped over $40 million into the state’s economy since its debut in 2019.

“It’s the biggest rugby league festival in the world – and it’s staying in Queensland,” Premier David Crisafulli said.

“We told Queenslanders we would stare down the other states and get this deal done and now Magic Round is secured for Queensland for the next six years.

“There’s a real buzz around Queensland right now this further cements our reputation as a leading destination for major events.
