Police have made an emergency declaration in Logan as more than a dozen fire crews work to extinguish a massive blaze at a tyre shop.

The fire started at the Kingston business around 1pm on Wednesday and quickly spread through the building, also engulfing as many as 20 vehicles.

Paramedics have confirmed a male patient suffered minor leg and hand burns. It’s understood all other bystanders and occupants are accounted for.

An exclusion zone has since been established in the immediate area, encompassing Queens Road from Meakin Road to Allan Street and from Plain Street across to Scrubby Creek.

Residents are being urged to avoid the area.

Huge plumes of thick black smoke can be seen from kilometres away. The Queensland Fire Department has warned there will be smoke and a strong smell in the area for several hours.
