Gold Coast beaches have been off-limits following a weekend of dangerous surf that saw monster waves of up to 6.5 metres recorded.
A Hazardous Surf Warning remains in place for today and tomorrow, covering a large stretch of the coastline from K’gari down to northern New South Wales.
Lifeguards are currently assessing the conditions this morning to determine if the closures will stay in place for the rest of the day.
Surf Life Saving Queensland is advising people to exercise caution, urging swimmers to stay out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
In addition to the dangerous sea conditions, the Gold Coast is in for another drizzly week.
A persistent weather system is bringing daily showers to the region, with rainy conditions expected to stick around until at least Friday.
