A cyclist remains in a serious condition after colliding with a car on the southern Gold Coast.

The male cyclist was riding along Guineas Creek Rd in Elanora around 7.40am on Sunday when he was struck by a Mitsubishi Outlander.

The 55-year-old man was treated on the scene by paramedics.

He was later taken to the Gold Coast University in a critical condition and underwent surgery on Sunday.

The driver of the Outlander was not physically injured.

The road was shut for several hours while investigations took place.

Police are appealing for anyone who was travelling in the area at the time or anyone with relevant vision to contact them.
