Gold Coast Suns young gun Bailey Humphrey has ended speculation about his future, putting pen to paper on a contract extension with the club.

The 21-year-old has opted to remain on the Gold Coast until the end of 2030.

Humphrey has been the focus of plenty of interest from Victorian clubs as he approached the end of his current deal, which expired in 2028.

He also expressed a desire to return home to Victoria last year, even meeting with Melbourne Demons coach Steven King during the off-season.

But the Suns were determined not to let him go, and have now locked the young star in.

Humphrey says he’s relieved his future has now been sorted.

“To be honest, it’s helped me heaps with just clearing my head, and I think the last five weeks of footy…I’ve put it all aside, and then I’ve come to my decision just before the end of the season, so that I can go into the offseason with a clear head and just focus on footy and focus on the footy club,” Humphrey said.

Despite his links to Victoria, Humphrey says he now feels at home on the Gold Coast, thanking the club for the faith shown in him.

“They gave me the opportunity to live out a childhood dream, and yeah, I’m probably not the easiest bloke to deal with, so just to give back to them when I can, and yeah, I just want to see success, and we’ve obviously been through the lows, but I want to be here for the highs as well.”

Suns List and Recruiting Manager Kall Burns says they’re pleased to have locked Humphrey in.

“Bailey is a highly valued and much-loved member of our football club, so we’re incredibly pleased that he has committed his future to the Gold Coast for another two years,” Burns said.

“He’s only 21, but with four seasons of AFL football already behind him, Bailey has established himself as an important part of our group and what we’re building together.
