Ben King’s time as a Gold Coast Sun appears to have drawn to an end, with the club confirming the star will pursue free agency.

The 26-year-old informed the club in his exit interview on Monday that he was keen to be closer to his family in Victoria.

“Ben King has today informed the club of his intention to explore his options as a restricted free agent during the upcoming free agency period,” the club said in a statement.

“As a restricted free agent, Gold Coast retains the right to match any offer made to Ben by another club and will consider all options in its best interests”.

King has not yet advised the Suns of his desire to join a particular club, but he has been heavily linked with a move to Hawthorn.

The Free Agency period opens on Friday, October 2.
