A p-plate driver has been fined $1,104 after being caught allegedly driving with his knees while he prepared a tasty snack in Toowoomba.
Police spotted the man behind the wheel of a silver Honda HR-V along Tor Street, Newton around 3.50pm on 7 September.
He was allegedly using his knees to steer while buttering a bagel.
The vehicle was also found to be unregistered.
In his interaction with the police officer, he stated “I know that was stupid, but I was hungry. I’ve been working since morning.”
The 29-year-old Glenvale man was issued with a traffic infringement notice for driving without due care and attention and driving an unregistered vehicle resulting in a $1,104 fine and loss of three demerit points.

“Taking your hands and focus away from the task of driving , even for something as seemingly harmless like preparing food, can have serious consequences,” Acting Superintendent Hanlen said.
“I want to remind motorists there is no meal, message or other distraction worth risking your safety or the safety of other road users. If you’re driving, keep your attention on the road and your hands where they belong – on the wheel.”
