Body found in search for missing swimmer

A man has died after disappearing while swimming in the Tweed.

The man went into the water at Kingscliff Beach on Tuesday afternoon, but failed to return to shore.

Relatives raised the alarm around 4 pm, sparking a wide-scale search of the area.

Police, lifesavers and the Westpac rescue helicopter scoured the waters before the man’s body was located just after 5pm.

A report will now be prepared for the coroner.
