LATEST @ 10AM | The Tugun Tunnel on the M1 has re-opened following traffic chaos across the southern Gold Coast and Tweed.
Transport NSW officials have confirmed an issue with overheight truck sensors was fixed just before 9.30am and the tunnel was reopened.
Traffic has returned to normal.
EARLIER @ 6.30AM | Motorists are facing major delays on the M1 with the Tugun Tunnel closed for emergency repairs.
Crews are working to fix sensors that detect overheight trucks following a malfunction overnight.
Southbound traffic is being diverted onto Tugun Currumbin Rd with delays back to Reedy Creek.
Northbound motorists are being diverted onto the Gold Coast Highway at Tweed Heads with delays back to Chinderah.
That is also causing hefty delays on surrounding roads.
A Transport NSW official was unable to give an ETA on when the tunnel will be reopened.
