A man has been arrested after businesses and cars were vandalised in Tugun, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

Police were called to the suburb at around 3am on Saturday after reports of someone damaging businesses and parked cars in the area.

At least 18 businesses and two parked cars were targeted on Teemagnum St, the Gold Coast Highway and Golden Four Drive.

Several stores had their windows smashed, while the cars had been dented.

A 35-year-old man was taken into custody.

He was expected to be charged with wilful damage.

Police are appealing to any businesses or car owners who may have sustained damage, or anyone with CCTV footage of the incident to contact them.
