The 13th Groundwater Country Musical has been hailed as another massive success, with tens of thousands of music fans turning out in Broadbeach over the weekend.
The three-day festival wrapped up on Sunday night with James Blundell and Kasey Chambers delighting fans in a packed Surf Parade, while Kingswood rocked the Kurrawa Big Top.
More than 60,000 people are estimated to have attended over the three days, exceeding last year’s numbers.
“It’s been a real carnival atmosphere this year, like the whole country carnival idea on the beach, people hanging out, great music obviously, but also country markets, cornhole, line dancing,” Festival Director Mark Duckworth said.
“The place has been humming…restaurants have been full, our merch sales have been great, people are having a great time.”
New Zealand country music star Kaylee Bell was one of the highlights, lighting up the Surf Parade stage on Saturday night.
“The Gold Coast is one of my favourite destinations on earth, so getting to play country music in a holiday destination is like paradise,” Bell said.
“I’m very fortunate to be here and to be able to play country music here this weekend.”
Organisers have also praised the emerging talent featured at this year’s festival, including Tyla Rodrigues, Denvah, the RB Brothers and Bo’Ness Brothers.
“We’ve had some incredible young talent coming through and seeing these artists share the festival with their mentors and idols is what it’s all about,” Duckworth said.
“Country music is attracting a whole new generation of fans, and it’s been fantastic to see people of all ages embracing the festival.”
