Council has revealed its wish list for the Gold Coast ahead of today’s State Budget.
Treasurer David Jantezki will hand down the budget on Tuesday afternoon, with our city leaders hopeful funding will be committed to several projects.
Some of those include the Coomera Hospital and Coomera Connector.
However, Acting Mayor Mark Hammel has revealed there is one major project that they definitely want to see included.
“Ideally, we want to see funding for the Light Rail Stage Four business case,” Cr Hammel said.
“It remains the city’s very firm position that this is a city changing public transport asset that must be delivered for all Gold Coasters”.
The State Opposition is also calling for funding for a detailed business case, as the future of the project remains up in the air amid a review launched by the LNP.
“If there’s no money for a business case for Stage Four, it tells me the LNP have given up on the Gold Coast,” Gaven MP Meaghan Scanlon said.
“Every time they get in they take this community for granted”.
Meantime, early reports suggest the budget will include almost $5 billion for the 2032 Olympics.
That will include more than $800 million to immediately deliver five of the state’s centrepiece Olympic venues, as well as $1 billion to deliver the athletes villages, including a new village on the Gold Coast.
The budget will be handed down at 2pm.
