An elderly couple have been airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital following a violent home invasion in northern NSW.
Emergency crews were called to a rural property in Torrington, about 65km south-west of Tenterfield, after a 72-year-old woman and her 75-year-old husband were allegedly stabbed by a man who broke into their home just after midnight.
The woman suffered stab wounds to her chest, while the man was stabbed in the abdomen.
The alleged intruder, a 34-year-old man, was shot while attempting to force his way back inside the home.
He was taken by road ambulance to Armidale Hospital.
He’s since been charged with two counts of cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder.
He has been refused bail to appear in court via a audio-video link later today.
The alleged attacker is not known to the couple.
