Parts of the Gold Coast have just endured their wettest May on record after a soggy month to wrap up Autumn.

But as the city says hello to winter, relief is here with blue skies for the first week of June and a dry few months on the way.

As of Sunday night, the Gold Coast Seaway recorded a whopping 343.6mm of rain across May.

That surpasses the previous record of 339.6mm which was set back in 1996.

It’s also more than double the average May rainfall, which is 105.3mm.

Coolangatta recorded 245mm across May which is well below its record of 380.6mm.

But it’s well above its May average of 132.2mm.

The first week of winter will bring mostly dry conditions across the Gold Coast with no sign of rain in the forecast until Sunday.

Top temperatures this week will be around 21-22 degrees, peaking with a maximum of 24 on Wednesday.

The overnight temps though are starting to drop with the Seaway to get into single digits several times this week.

The BOM is predicting a typically dry winter for the Gold Coast with warmer than average temperatures and mostly sunny skies for the next few months.
