LATEST @ 5AM FRIDAY | Firefighters have worked late into the night to contain a large bushfire in Bonogin Valley.
The blaze broke out near the top of Bromfield Drive around 2pm Thursday afternoon and quickly spread.
Around 20 fire crews were needed to battle the blaze and contain it, with crews staying on scene until around midnight to dampen down hotspots.
Crews will return to the area around 7am this morning to check containment lines and patrol the area.
A police spokesperson says the fire is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.
“Residents nearby may continue to see emergency vehicles and activity in the area [this morning],” a Facebook post from the Bonogin Valley Rural Fire Brigade reads.
“Thank you to our local community for keeping clear of the area and allowing crews to safely carry out their work.”
It’s the second bushfire on the Gold Coast in a week following a suspicious Wongawallan blaze that burnt for several days.
EARLIER @ 3PM THURSDAY | Multiple fire crews are battling a bushfire burning in the Gold Coast hinterland.
The blaze started in Bonogin Valley just before 2pm on Thursday and quickly spread, with 20 crews currently working to battle the flames while more are on the way.
The Bonogin Valley Rural Fire Brigade is urging residents to steer clear of the area.
“Fire crews are currently responding to a bushfire incident near the top of Bromfield Drive, Bonogin Valley,” it said in a post to Facebook.
“We ask residents and members of the public to please stay away from the area and avoid unnecessary travel along Bromfield Drive while emergency services are operating.
“Keeping the area clear allows firefighters and emergency vehicles to safely access the incident and crews to focus on their work.”
The Queensland Fire Department has also issued a smoke warning for Bonogin, Neranwood and Austinville.
