Petrol prices on the Gold Coast have hit new record highs, causing more hip-pocket pain for motorists.
The cost of fuel has been slowly creeping up across the city over the last couple of weeks amid rising crude oil costs and the Middle East conflict.
But on Tuesday morning, unleaded was spotted selling for a whopping $2.70 a litre in Tugun.
That’s well above the $2.60 a litre that was forecast less than a fortnight ago.
Motorists are being urged to fill up now, with unleaded still selling for as low as $2.23 a litre in Pimpama and $2.24 a litre in Helensvale, Arundel and Biggera Waters.
The news is even worse for diesel, which has now hit $3 a litre for regular diesel in Tugun and Mudgeeraba.
Diesel can still be found for $2.64 a litre in Labrador.
The surge at the bowser comes despite an easing in world oil prices overnight, with crude dipping back below $100 US a barrel.
