Gold Coast beaches are bracing for more erosion today as a powerful low-pressure system continues to batter our coastline.
The weather bureau has issued multiple warnings for strong winds and dangerous surf as the system continues to linger offshore of the Queensland coast.
“Strong to gale-force southeasterly winds are generating large and powerful east to southeasterly swells today,” The Bureau of Meteorology said.
“Damaging surf conditions which may lead to coastal erosion and localised damage to coastal infrastructure are possible between the NSW Border and Cape Moreton, particularly for south to southeast facing beaches”.
The dangerous conditions peaked during the early hours of this morning, with ferocious wind gusts of 72 kilometers per hour recorded at the Seaway.
The wild weather follows a treacherous Sunday afternoon, where monster offshore waves peaking at over 7 meters were recorded just off the coast, while waves of over 9 metres were recorded off the Tweed.
Lifeguards are pleading with swimmers to steer clear of the surf, with authorities set to hit the sand later this morning to determine whether any beaches need to be closed.
