A Gold Coast company is set to carve itself into Australian space and manufacturing history.

Gilmour Space Technologies will launch its first orbital rocket, named Eris, from a launch pad in Bowen, North Queensland on Friday morning.

It was due to take off on Thursday, but has been delayed after coming into some trouble.

“No launch today,” the company said in a statement.

“Our team identified an issue in the ground support system during overnight checks.

“We’re now in an extended hold while we work through it.

“Our next target is the Friday morning launch window… Stay tuned for updates”.

If tomorrow’s take-off is successful, it will mark Australia’s first ever domestically designed and produced rocket being launched into orbit.

In an Aussie twist, all that will be on board the rocket for the flight will be a camera and a jar of Vegemite!
