A Gold Coast man has been charged over an offensive social media account uncovered by Australian Federal Police.

Authorities allege the account published prohibited Nazi symbols alongside racist, white supremacist, nationalist and anti-LGBTQIA+ content.

The AFP’s National Security Investigations team executed a search warrant at a home in Mudgeeraba earlier this week, seizing a mobile phone.

The 49-year-old man was issued with a notice to appear for one count of publicly displaying prohibited Nazi symbols.

The maximum penalty for this offence is five years’ imprisonment.

The man is set to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on 16 November.
