A Gold Coast Federal MP is being criticised for saying the Prime Minister and Small Business Minister should be publicly stoned.

Angie Bell directed the remarks at Anthony Albanese and Anne Aly during a fiery speech in the lower house over the tax office’s decision to ban credit card payments stating they “should be absolutely shamed and stoned in the square.”

Ms Bell has since withdrawn the comments, but Ms Aly has hit back on social media.

The Small Business Minister has described the remarks as racist, misogynistic, and contrary to Australian values.

“It’s not just something that a parliamentarian shouldn’t say in terms of advocating violence against another parliamentarian,” Ms Aly says.

“It is something that stands against our Australian values. We are a country that proudly stands against violence against women, and against regimes that use brutal methods like stoning against women.

“It is racist, it is misogynistic, and it should never have been said.”

Ms Aly, who is the first Muslim woman elected to federal parliament, has also revealed she’s received 19 death threats this week alone.
