A man has been charged over an alleged hit and run crash in Southport.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Ferry Road and High Street just after 10pm on Saturday following reports of a crash between a BMW and Honda.

Police allege the driver of the BMW, a 32-year-old Runaway Bay man, fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.

However, he was tracked down and arrested a short time later.

The man spent the night before bars before being charged with several offences including one count each of unlicenced driving and failing to remain at incident and render assistance.

He was issued a Notice To Appear at the Southport Magistrates Court.

The driver of the Honda was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
