A man is fighting for life following a horror motorbike crash that shut down the M1 on the northern Gold Coast overnight.
Emergency crews were called to the southbound lanes at Helensvale around 8pm on Thursday following reports of a serious crash.
Upon arrival, they found a motorbike had collided with a car.
The rider of the bike, a man in his 50s, suffered significant pelvic and foot injuries.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.
The crash forced the southbound lanes to close for two hours while authorities responded.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
