Budget airline Bonza is set to kick off flights to and from the Gold Coast…again.

Bonza launched its Glitter Strip flights with plenty of fanfare, announcing the city as its third Australian base.

It began selling seats for flights to 14 cities including Albury, Darwin, Cairns, Townsville and Launceston.

But its launch hit a major snag when regulatory approval for its aircraft was delayed.

Bonza had been planning to lease aircraft from Canadian airline Flair to service its Gold Coast base as well as its use crew.

The delay forced Bonza to cancel dozens of its flights just ahead of Christmas leaving passengers scrambling to find alternative arrangements.

Bonza has confirmed it has now received approval from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority with flights to resume today.

“We know it’s been a challenging time for some of our customers who were unable to fly and to them we say we’re really sorry and we’ll learn from this and do better to deliver for Australia,” Bonza CEO Tim Jordan said.

“Now that we have approval for the two additional aircraft we’re scaling up our operations and servicing our new routes from our Gold Coast base.”

As a way of an apology to customers, Bonza has launched a sale with 30 per cent off some fares.

The offer is available for flights to and from the Gold Coast from today until January 31.
