Violent teen criminals from Victoria have been treated to taxpayer-funded holidays to the Gold Coast as part of their so-called rehabilitation.
According to the ABC, at least two juveniles who have been convicted of home invasions and carjackings have been treated to a trip to the Glitter Strip.
The pair reportedly visited some of the city’s theme parks and did other sightseeing, apparently to help break their cycle of crime.
The youths were given community corrections orders for their crimes, which were reportedly later amended by the Department of Justice to allow them to make the trip to Queensland.
However, Victorian officials have denied any knowledge of the holidays and insist that no Victorian officials were part of the trip.
It has been reported that the holidays were actually funded by the federal National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
The matter is now being investigated by the National Disability Insurance Agency, which is responsible for the NDIS.
“The government and the NDIS remain focused on shutting down unscrupulous behaviour in the National Disability Insurance Scheme,” NDIS Minister Jenny McAllister said.
