A man has been charged after allegedly breaking into an aged care home in NSW where he’s accused of sexually assaulting a 90-year-old woman, leaving her with serious injuries.

Police allege the 34-year-old forced his way into a facility in Bateau Bay on the NSW Central Coast about 12.40am on Wednesday November 15.

Once inside, he allegedly assaulted and sexually assaulted the elderly resident, who was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Following investigations into the horrific incident, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at an address in The Entrance.

During the raid, police located electronics, sim cards and clothing, which were seized to undergo further forensic examination.

As a result, detectives yesterday attended a home in Caves Beach, where they arrested a 34-year-old man who attempted to run from police.

He was taken to hospital for minor arm injuries before being released and transported to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with a string of offences including aggravated break & enter & commit serious indictable offence-use violence.

The man was also charged with inflict actual bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse with victim, aggravated sexual assault – break and enter with intent, and aggravated sexual assault – inflict actual bodily harm on victim.

The man was refused bail to appear before Belmont Local Court today.
