A huge boost for northern Gold Coast public transport users with the brand new Pimpama train station opening today.
It’s the first new train station to be opened in Queensland in almost a decade and is the first of three new stations for the Gold Coast.
The new station will welcome 617 train services every week, with trains stopping every 10 minutes during peak hour and every 30 minutes during off-peak.
Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg says it’s an exciting day.
“It’s a really important step in delivering better public transport for the Gold Coast. It’s also complemented by our investment in Logan-Gold Coast faster rail, so what that means is more frequent services, particularly express services through to and from Brisbane,” Mickelberg said.
“We know particularly the northern Gold Coast is growing at an exceptionally fast rate, and we need the infrastructure to support that.”
The new station includes 380 car parks for commuters, a bicycle lock-up enclosure that can hold 40 bikes, as well as lift access to and from the station.
Bus services on the northern Gold Coast have also been overhauled to provide even more connectivity.
Routes 721, 722, 724, 732, and 733 will now stop at Pimpama Station, while changes have also been made to routes 722 and 724 to provide a better service to Pimpama State Primary and State Secondary Colleges.
Work is continuing on the Gold Coast’s other two new train stations, with Hope Island and Merrimac on track to open in 2026.
