A man has been charged, accused of crashing a stolen caravan from a Hinterland property with three children still inside.
The 59-year-old is alleged to have turned up at a property on Glenrowan Rd around 5.30pm on Tuesday.
The man is then accused of attaching a caravan to his Nissan X-Trail with just a single ratchet strap.
A 40-year-old woman, along with three children aged 7, 5 and 2 were inside the van at the time, while the family’s pet Rottweiler was underneath.
The woman got out of the van before the man allegedly started driving off onto Worongary Rd, injuring the dog.
The man did not get far, losing control and crashing down an embankment about 80 metres from the driveway.
The woman climbed on top of the van to retrieve her children through a skylight.
All three were uninjured.
The 59-year-old man was taken to hospital as a precaution.
He has since been charged with one count of each unlawful use of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on November 10.
The dog suffered leg and head injuries in the incident.
