The iconic walking track through Burleigh Head National Park is back open after it had to be closed for safety reasons.

The Oceanview Track was preemptively shut off amid the forecast wet weather which hit the Gold Coast nearly two weeks ago.

A few days later, a large boulder was dislodged by the rain and came tumbling down onto the track below, taking out a railing in the process.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service had to keep the track shut due to concerns of more boulder falls.

QPWS have since conducted a ground inspection, a geotechnical survey and an analysis of drone footage in order to undertake remediation works, which have been successful.

“Rangers were disappointed that dozens of people put their safety at risk by ignoring the closure at the weekend,” QPWS said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Although rangers took an educational approach and ordered those people to leave the track, they regularly work with the Queensland Police Service on compliance issues.

“QPWS is reminding people to never enter closed areas of national parks, pay attention to signage, and always follow the directions of rangers and QPS staff. People who enter closed areas risk a $667.60 fine.”
