LATEST @ May 5 | A man has been charged after shocking footage of him allegedly assaulting a dog on a Gold Coast road went viral.
Police launched an investigation last week after vision showed the man kicking and dragging the dog while walking along Hooker Boulevard in Broadbeach around 9.15am on April 30.
The distressing footage was shared across multiple animal welfare and local Facebook group pages, with concerned residents flooding the posts with hundreds of comments.
Following inquiries into the incident, police tracked down and arrested a 41-year-old man who has since been charged with animal cruelty.
The Broadbeach Waters man is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on 18 May.
Police have confirmed the dog has since been given into the care of the RSPCA.
