One of Queensland’s busiest police stations is at risk of closing over serious safety concerns.

There’s the possibility of a black mould outbreak at the Logan Central Police Station, where officers have been ordered to stop using the ground floor.

Crews in protective suits have spent the night conducting tests and will return again this morning to continue investigations.

A message has been sent to all 550 officers across the Logan district, informing them that they can work from other stations today.

It comes after two past police officers raised concerns about getting seriously ill from black mould.

“This is not the first time that Logan Central has been in the spotlight for mould, we have had previous situations where members have become gravely ill,” Queensland Police Union President Shane Prior said.

Queensland Police have since released a statement, insisting there is no impact on operational capacity.

“The Queensland Police Service is committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of its members,” the service said.

“QPS is aware of mould possibly being present at Logan Central Station.

“In line with QPS health and safety mould prevention protocols, an assessment is currently being undertaken to determine future actions, including identification, treatment and remediation.

“QPS will continue to engage and provide updates to impacted members and the Queensland Police Union of Employees”.
