A Gold Coast mother accused of killing her adult son with a drug laced smoothie has been found not guilty.

Maree Mavis Crabtree was on trial in the Brisbane Supreme Court charged over the death of Jonathan Crabtree at their Maudsland home in July 2017.

The prosecution had alleged that Crabtree poisoned the 26-year-old with a fatal overdose of prescription painkillers before making a $125,000 insurance claim.

However, while the Crown portrayed Crabtree as a calculating killer, the defence argued she was the victim of a malicious revenge plot orchestrated by her own daughter.

Deliberations lasted nearly two and a half days before the jury cleared Crabtree of murder, attempted murder, and fraud.

They also found her not guilty on the alternative charge of manslaughter.
