Investigation underway after Helensvale hit-and-run

Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred at a busy Helensvale intersection.

A white Mitsubishi Triton ute slammed into the back of a white Mitsubishi Eclipse wagon on Helensvale Road, near the intersection with Discovery Drive, around 5pm on Tuesday.

Instead of swapping to exchange details, the driver of the Triton allegedly sped away from the scene.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck followed the ute until it finally came to a stop on Camden Court.

Police arrived shortly after and took the driver, a 27-year-old man, into custody.

He has since been released, with police confirming that investigations are ongoing as they await the results of a mandatory blood test.
